My workshop is situated
near the Lake Traunsee in the
Salzkammergut region. I carve between
80 and 100 tobacco pipes each year
by hand from briar root (erica arborea).

Why do I carve pipes?

To me tobacco pipes are a symbol of ancient times, when human beings started to use fire. The combination of fire and smoke reminds me of the beginning of our culture. I like the simplicity and complexity at the same time which all good pipes have in common.
